In Defense of Solitude

This is how we live.

The noise, the scrambling,

the squeak of shoes across the floor.

It drives me mad –

the kind of mad you can get

down and roll around in.

You turn on each light, open each

window, so you never have to sit,

in the darkness, in the quiet,

caught alone with yourself.
