A Dose of Narcissism, Swallowed with a Mouthful of Self-Doubt

My mind is such a beautiful place,
I’m offended you didn’t want to stay longer.

What I meant to say was: you left
and I’m afraid my mind is no longer beautiful.

  1. i admire the compression of this poem, your ability to say so much in four lines. and i smile at the fact that the title is longer than the verse, which overturns the reader’s expectations. i certainly relate to how the persona is conflicted about herself. i wonder if you would be interested in reading a poem in my blog “arguments with my selves,” that takes its title from the first poem in it.

    1. Thank you so much! The length of the title versus the brevity of the poem was a strange dynamic I was hoping to craft.

I would be delighted to read your poem. May I have a link to your blog?

Thoughts? I love those.
