About

“What I want is to open up. I want to know what’s inside me. I want everybody to open up. I’m like an imbecile with a can opener in his hand, wondering where to begin – to open up the earth. I know that underneath the mess everything is marvelous. I’m sure of it.”  — Henry Miller

“There is no time for despair, no place for self-pity, no need for silence, no room for fear. We speak, we write, we do language. That is how civilizations heal.”
— Toni Morrison

“I am not interested in being original. I am interested in being true.”
— Agostinho da Silva

Hi, I’m Natalie – or at least that’s what my friends and family call me. To all others I’m known as “the girl who reads and writes obsessively like words are going out of style.” I am a 20-year-old poet and violinist who is also aspiring to be a novelist. I hope you find something here worth remembering.

  1. Natalie,

You are an amazing writer. And your passion for the work shines through.

I’m so happy to be connected to your work.

Keep doing what your heart tells you.

    Tom

    1. Thank you for the kind words, Tom! I’m very glad to be connected to your work as well.

You are extraordinary. I am looking forward to keeping up with your writing!

  2. Wow, I wish I could have written stuff like this at 15. Heck, I wish I could write it now, and believe me, I am way more than 15! Glad I stumbled onto your blog. Keep writing.

  3. I too just discovered you due to a reblog…and so glad I did! Will definitely be reading more of your work – so well done! I am a beginning poet and blogger…just started my blog this week.

    1. Well, thank you! 🙂 I love new visitors. Good luck with your blog – it’s quite a process, but once you establish yourself it is infinitely rewarding.

  4. Your 15? Goodness me…your writing is incredible, i shall walk around your wordpress garden. I have daughters older than you and for one so young you are so gifted. Ceri x

  5. You are an amazingly gifted young lady. Wherever your life may lead, writing can always keep you company. I only wish that I had pursued it with the drive that you obviously possess, rather than waiting twenty years to find it again…
    Don’t stop writing.

    1. Wow – thank you so much! Your poetry is breathtaking as well – made even more beautiful by the years it’s spent in quiet. Onward! We’re writers; there’s no looking back now 😉

  6. Stumbled here from Marya’s blog. Some writers occasionally tap a sinuous creek, a tributary, and play in the shallows.

You, however; you’re a river. I once spent 3 days on the Congo River, one of the great waterways of the world. You remind me of that – width, depth, force.

  7. So glad I stumbled across your blog. 16 years old and already you have a unique and captivating writing style. Color me the green of unending envy, and let me paint a picture with words half as beautiful as your creation’s desires. I am following and can’t wait to look around some more.
    Keep Inspiring

  8. I’m sure you can tell from your notifications that I kinda just stalked your home page reading your poems. 🙂 They’re all REALLY great! Fantastic job. I’m about to read the rest!

  9. Natalie,
You were somewhere among my mushy compost of thoughts this morning when these two poems and one short story were born. You’d mentioned once the “sensible” advice you receive about a poet’s life versus a day-job-real-life (I paraphrase in retrospect here).

I’d apologize for co-opting your “About” page for a link to my post… except I intend to do it anyway. 😉

All the best. Keep writing poetry.

    1. Alice, you have no idea how happy that makes me 😀 I’m so glad to be in your head, when you are so often in mine.

      Wonderful work. Breathtakingly real work.

      Cheers!

  10. Hi Natalie!

Your poetry is absolutely gorgeous! We’re about the same age, but yours is infinitely better than mine! I’ve posted a few poems here and there on my blog, but it’s not exactly my area of expertise. 😉 Still, I love reading good poetry!

Congratulations on being Freshly Pressed!! It’s definitely well deserved! You have such stunning voice in your work.

    Erin

  11. Congratulations on being ‘Freshly Pressed’, so glad you did because it means I’ve found your blog.

Your writing is amazing and completely draws me in, will definitely be following and looking forward to reading more of your words. Truly magical.

  12. I found your work through Freshly Pressed, and am so glad I did. Not only is your writing heartbreakingly true, it is inspiring. Thanks for helping me find the next words for my blog. I’ve only been doing this for about a year, and am finding my way through, and love discovering gems like yours.

  13. I happened upon your blog and I am beyond amazed. Had it not been for your intriguing title I would not have ventured further solely because of your youth. I am so glad I was not left to my idiotic ideals of what I thought you were. I love your writing. Thank you for sharing. Can’t wait to see what you publish, no doubt you will!

    1. I can’t say how much this comment means to me. Thank you for taking this 17-year-old poet seriously, and for staying to look around 🙂 I’m very glad to have you here.
